By the time I’d said goodbye to Axel and made my way back into the school, teachers were leading their classes to one of three places. It sounded like a party was happening in the food hall. The school hall had the school band playing, and the outside sports field was slammed with carefree kids. Teachers kept stopping and congratulating me. Likewise, Dale was surrounded by faculty members, slapping him on the back or shaking his hand.

No one had understood how much William had pulled morale in the school down until now. With everyone pulling their weight and doing their jobs, it’d be easier for people to leave on time. Rumours of the embezzlement were doing the rounds, leaving several Department Head’s furious. Budgets had been slashed for the last three years, and staff were putting two and two together and coming up with four. William had stolen their funding. I’d seen a team of suits in the administration office. Clearly, the school was having its accounts ripped apart.

I dispelled some of the more salacious rumours and reassured everyone their jobs were safe as far as I knew. Phoe hadn’t mentioned any further dismissals, and she’d clearly had a hit list and acted on it immediately. There was an air of joy and celebration, William and his little toadies had done a lot of damage. Now they’d been removed. There were a few malcontents, people frightened of change or people who’d poor performances, and William had covered for them.

Change was coming, and I, for one, welcomed it. It was a new start for the school. Not that it had been a bad school, but tensions had been rising as William neglected the school more often. Other Department Heads, who’d picked up his role, was walking around as if a weight had been lifted from their shoulders. Smiles were quicker to come, and jokes were overheard, and I realised just how repressed we’d been.

But with the new school board, Phoe and Dale, we’d make this school brilliant again. Make it better than before William began his lazy ways. The faculty had such high standards once, we’d get them back without William undermining us. Yup, it was indeed a new day for the school.
